The 3 Most Powerful Ideas From Tim Ferriss

After 5 years of following his work

1. “Being Perpetually Busy is a Form of Laziness”

In our society, being always busy is a way to prove our self-worth. We are more respected — by others and by ourselves — if we are constantly hustling, throwing ourselves at new projects, working hard on big ideas.

But are our projects really that important? Or are they just a disguise of our failure to realize what really matters? If we waste our time on everything and anything, there will be no time left for what we truly want to do.

2. Fear Setting

Tim Ferriss takes some of his ideas from Stoicism, a philosophy designed to make us more resilient, virtuous, happier, and wiser. Building on that, he created a fear setting exercise. In his words, this is “an operating system for thriving in high-stress environments. It’s a way to visualize all the bad things that could happen to you, so you become less afraid of taking action.”

You can watch his TED Talk on the topic here:

3. Take Care of Yourself

Tim Ferriss presents himself as a “human guinea pig”. He experiments. He does so in order to find out what works for him (and, potentially, for millions of others). As a result of those experiments, he developed a set of routines that keep him healthy, physically, and mentally. And that is essential in providing him the mental clarity to develop the kind of work he does.

Some of his self-care techniques include:

  • Journaling
  • Meditating
  • Working out
  • Eating healthily

Let me know in the comments if you implement some of these ideas in your life, and what impact they had!
