The Problem With Self Help: It’s Not Me, It’s You

“I feel that all self-help authors write to help themselves”, my friend told me the other day. That was when I finally realized something so simple as this: it is called self-help.

You can read all the best books in the genre, devour an article after another, but in the end, it is up to you to help yourself.

I’ve noticed this pattern in me: self-help helps me when I allow it to do so. When I am in the right mindset. When I live on the right side of life. When I believe it. Otherwise, self-help books are just empty, meaningless words.

Self-help doesn’t pull you out of the darkness, it just helps you stay on the sunny side.

Self-help is a life coach, not a psychologist.
